Holly Mapes, a student from Brighton University, England invented the “Hexa-Egg” box, a hexagonal packaging design that can fold down for easier use and has cress seeds embedded into the biodegradable and recycled board from which it is made. When water is added to each egg slot, the cress grows from inside the cardboard.
Holly came up with this idea when researching her final year project “Food and Packaging Waste within a Domestic Setting’’
