This infographic from www.procarton.com show the type of energy that is used in the cartonboard manufacturing process. The good news is that 56% of the primary energy used in cartonboard manufacturing is biomass-based. Biomass is fuel that is developed from organic materials, a renewable and sustainable source of energy used to create electricity or other forms of power. Some examples of materials that make up biomass fuels are: scrap lumber, forest debris, certain crops, manure, and some types of waste residues. Also the industry is the largest producer and user of biomass based energy – 20% of the total in the EU. This means less non-renewable energy sources such as oil, gas and coal are being used.
